The cake was purchased at Dee's Specialty Cakes I herd about her from a co-worker. I'm having her make me a 2 tier custom cake. The bottom tier will have a super Mario scene and the top tier will be white with a rainbow buntin swagging around it. She is also making me 2 smash cakes. 1 for each kid, they will be square and resemble the yellow power up box. So I guess I'm having 3 cakes. She also has great prices but the down side is that she is all the way in Michigan and if you live in Chicago the drive over to her place is a bit much. I'm lucky to have a friend that lives a couple blocks away from Mrs. Dee's so she is doing me the huge favor of picking up the cakes for me.
I am happy to purchase the cakes from Dee's Specialty Cakes because she donates 10% of sales as well as 100% of all tips to Canine Companion for Independence.
Last week I took a trip to Target and there I had my most recent score in goodies. Oh how sweet it is to find sale items and turn them into something cute. I walked to the $1.00 section and was lucky to find they had the red tag sale which meant 50% certain $1.00 items. I was in heaven. I spotted some yellow tins that match perfect with the Jessie/Bullseye party I'm having for my niece. So I snagged 6 bright yellow tins for only $3.00. My next stop at Target was the Easter Isle and yes everything was 60% to 70% off. There I layed eyes on the most perfect plates. Green/White egg plates and when I saw them I thought of Yoshi. Don't they look just like Yoshi eggs? I think so. A 10pack of plates cost me $1.50. They will make great dessert plates. Next to the plates where Yoshi place mats and Yoshi looking tins and lime green tissue paper. I took on place mat for $1.29, 3 tins for $1.50 each and 2 8pack of tissue paper for .50 each.
If you can spot those green Easter eggs and basket in the background well yes. I'm reusing the green pplastic Easter eggs. Hey I have green eggs and a sharpie pen. It's time to make some Yoshi eggs. I just hand painted black spots on the eggs filled them with candy and will put them in the goodie bags. Neat, cheap and sweet idea.
Sharpie check, green plastic Easter eggs check, ink on fingers double check. It might get messy so be careful with that sharpie.
OK i got a little side track. Where was I? oh yeah Target. So guess what I found on the candy isle?
Super Mario Fruit Snacks. A box of 10 was on sale for $2.00 so I took 5. I came home and unpacked everything. I saw the box and a little light in my head turned on. Hhhhmmmm that Mario and Luigi on the cover look mighty cute. I took out my scissors and cute them out not knowing what i was going to do with them yet. Right as I was about to cut them I took out the candy turned the box around and guess what I saw? Ready for this?
A free Sudoku game on the back. It's time to cut, glue and repackage. I figure these games will be great prices for the kids to pick from.
Time to cut the front of the Box.
What can i do with these little guys? Center pieces. Ding Ding Ding. I have some skewers I purchased at Party City for the fruit kababs I'm making. I have some colorful tins I bought at Oriental Trading and lots of colorful tissue paper.
Vuala!!!! My center pieces maybe.
I will post a tutorial on how to assemble these babies and more creative super mario goodies tomorrow. I am tired and ready for some ZZZZZZ.
