Tackling the medicine cabinet

I don’t remember when the last time I cleaned my medicine cabinet was. It might have been over 3yrs ago when I first moved in to my apartment so needless to say I’m in dire need of organizing and cleaning it.

I don’t have enough space in the bathroom where meds are usually stored so I keep my meds in the kitchen cabinet. The meds take up three shelved. Seems like a lot of medicine so let’s see what we have.

Ekkk! I’m scared to look

Here are the steps I took to clear out the med mess I made. You can follow them too.

  1. Take everything out of the cabinets and place it on the table so you see it all.

 OMG what a disaster!

2.    Clean the shelves make sure you get any sticky or stinky smell out. Medicine might have accidentally spilled

3.Go through and separate meds by category example (Children’s Medicine, Adult Medicine, First Aid, Ear, Eyes and Skin) if the meds are expired get rid of them.

I didn’t realize how many expired meds I had in the cabinet. Some dated 2002 *gasp*

4. Once separated take your baskets/containers and start filling them up by category. I purchased my containers at Dollar Tree you don’t need anything fancy. Place the baskets/container back in the shelf.

5. Label the baskets/container (optional). Having the medicines clearly marked makes it easy for the entire family to find what they need.

Now stand back and admire the new organized medicine cabinet. Sigh, it took me a little over an hour to tackle the cabinet but I’m glad I did. I love opening the cabinet and smile every time I read the labels hehe. I’m such a nerd.

I want to give a special thanks to Jen from iheartorganizing for inspiring me to get more organized and get more done around my home. Her blog is amazing and I hope one day I can be as organized as she is.
